In 1969, a unique cultural facility, the Ancient Art Museum, was opened in Hostinné. The collection installed there comprises plaster copies created according to originals, which special patina was applied on to give the impression of original material, colour and structure. The exhibited collection provides, besides an artistic experience, a complex picture of the development of classical sculpture from the end of the 7th century BC to the 2nd century AD.
The value of the collection is enhanced by the fact that the original models of some of the castings were destroyed or are considered lost (the portraits of Vilonius, Traianus and Homer). The Gallery is located in the former Franciscan Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The current appearance of the church resulted from a number of constructional phases and repairs.
